General Information

There are 9 playable races in Ashes of Creation and several other races are in the game as well. Your race will affect several aspects of gameplay such as Augments, Abilities, and appearance. There are also other places in the game where Racial appearance will occur such as architecture, Node layout, mounts, and more! Here are some more facts about Races in Ashes of Creation.

  • You can not change your race
  • Races will be primarily Humanoid in nature due to lore and reduction of in-game assets
  • NPCs will react differently to each playable race.
  • Certain quest givers will only be present if a Node has a certain cultural influence
  • Your race may affect your Quests

Playable Races

The list of Playable races in Ashes of Creation includes Human, Elf, Orc, Dwarf, and Tulnar. Below we will look at more details concerning each race and their subraces.

Aela – Humans

The Human race is split into two subraces the Kaelar and the Vaelune.

Kaelar

High-Class Humans, Structured around Order and Civilization.  Responsible for the longest-spanning empire of the “Old World”.  

  • Homelands: River Biome
  • Standard Human Model with European Style Influences

Vaelune

Desert Desert-dwelling humans whose civilization is built on hardship, trade, and law.  One of the most wealthy empires of Sanctus. Living in the desert shaped them into a Civilization that bends but does not break.  

  • Middle Eastern Influence
  • Homelands: Dessert Biome
  • Have a “Jinn-like appearance due to their lineage

Dunzenkell – Dwarves

The Dwarven Race is split into two subraces: The Dunir and the Nikua

Dunir

Mountain Dwelling Dwarves whose civilization is forged around Tradition and Crafting.  These Dwarves take pride in their Forge works, Jewelry, and Fortresses.  The Dunir are known for being the strongest Warriors in the World. 

  • Nordic style Influence
  • Both males and females can have facial hair

Nikua

Seekers of the great hunt, these sea-side Dwarfs moved from the mountains in search of Freedom.  The Nikua look towards crafting as a way of passage and advancement of their Family.  

  • Polynesian Style Influence
  • Nikua has a “Halfling” appearance
  • Nikua will not be able to have facial hair

Kaivek – Orcs

The Orc race is split into two subraces: the Ren’Kai and the Vek.

Ren’Kai

Honor, Power, and Tranquility, The Ren’Kai Orcs believe in the practice and control of their abounding power.  When this power is Unleashed, the Ren’kai Orcs are unrivaled in combat

  • Asian Influence
  • Will be a much larger race in appearance then other races
  • Red or Green skin tone will be selectable

Vek

The Vek orcs are Astrologlogers who, when they stargaze, find what fate lies beyond our time.  They use this ritual to see how wars will go, which empires will rise and fall, and what path to take. The Vek often ask themselves “Are we too late?”

  • Mesoamerican Influence
  • More similar to a Troll or Goblin in appearance then RenKai

Pyrian – Elves

The Elves are split up into two subclasses: Empyrean and Py’Rai

Empyrean

Elite Military forces and Highly structured government. The Empyrean Elves are a force to be reckoned with and have plans to carve their place in the world.

  • Roman Empire Influence

Py’Rai

Nature, Balance, and Fury, the Py’rai Elves are often found wielding a bow or a spear.  Known for their ferocity, these wood elves rarely take Prisoners.  

  • Native American Influence
  • All Py’ari will have customizable antlers

Tulnar

The Tulnar fled the Underrealm to escape the Corruption that befell Verra.  The Tulnar have varying appearances from mammal, reptilian, and feline.

  • Players will get to choose what influences and characteristics their Tulnar Character has
  • There will be no Avian Characteristics to the Tulnar.
  • Tulnar will get to choose their starting zone.
