Introduction
Welcome to our Spear Staff PVP build guide for Throne and Liberty. This guide focuses on the PVP set-up for Spear Staff and how to play it. The weapon combination forms the “Eradicator” Class. The Class set-up we’ll cover in this guide showcases the ability to pump damage from the maximum range in the game.
Skills
Below are the Skills and Specializations we recommend for the Spear Staff PVP Build. This includes Large Scale and Small Scale:
ALL PVP (PVP Boss, GVG, Castle Siege, Events, Arena)
The Spear Staff set-up is pretty straight forward. The build is pretty locked in for a specific playstyle in most content. In this case, it is served best as a maximum ranged DPS turret. This does mean, however, that you’re an easier target if you’re jumped on. As a result, playing a max range is a must.
Specializations
With 100 total points to play with once you hit Level 50, below is our recommended Specializations for the Spear Staff build for Large Scale PVP:
Every Specialization helps towards locking down targets, dealing damage to targets while stacking your Javelin ammo, and destroying clumps of enemy players from anywhere from 25-30m away! For smaller scale PVP such as Arena, aim to remove more of the cleave/AoE type specializations and invest more into survivability, cooldown and other utilities.
See our Skill Specializations guide for more information.
Weapon Mastery
This guide assumes you are at least in the range of Level 13-16 Weapon Mastery. However, if you’re below this threshold, it’s not an issue. Simply spec into the mastery trees that provide the most damage first.
Stats
Stats once you reach Tier 1 Epic gear can vary frequently due to stats built into gear. As a result, try to push for at least 70 Dexterity and 50 Perception while participating in PVP – gear depending. Below is our recommended baseline Stat allocation:
- Strength – 7 Points
- Dexterity – 10 Points
- Perception – 19 Points
- Wisdom – 13 Points
Gear & Equipment
The gear loadout largely, if not entirely, stays the same across all content once you reach Tier 1 Epic. Our Tier 1 Epic set assumes that most of the base content has been unlocked with the Milestones completed.
Archboss weapons are a great bonus to any build, however, it can massively improve your effectiveness in this build. If you are using Queen Bellandir’s Hivemind Staff – make sure to remove Inner Peace for Frost Smokescreen (with the fire-based specialization).
Runes are set-up to push our Heavy Attack Chance higher and increase our base Hit Chance. Finally, we round out the supportive side with increased Healing Received and Skill Damage Resistance where possible. We opted for a Shadow Harvester-focused gearset for ease of access to the gear and the power both Attack Speed and Critical Damage gives to the build. Additionally, the build is geared to having as much Range increase as possible. Typically, the only weapons stopping you from deleting your target in PVP is melee, as a result, playing at maximum range often allows you to be in positions people cannot easily reach.
For a guide on early progression, see our 1-50 leveling guide for Spear Staff.
Guardian
Guardians are a unique transformation on a 10 minute Cooldown that gives powerful bonuses to you for 30 seconds. Some Guardians work as an additional “Active” Skill, while others provide buffs. We recommend the following Guardians for PVP:
- Pale Nemesis Hartach – Hartach is as close as you can get to a Tevent’s Fangs of Fury-style effect. This Guardian requires a bit more knowledge and skill to pull off. However, if you can utilize it well, it doubles as a strong defensive and offensive Guardian.
- Lady Knight Kamarshea – This Guardian is a fantastic safety net, just incase you’re taking too much damage on an engage. You’ll also get a huge amount of Cooldown Speed too.
How to Play the Spear Staff PVP Build
The Spear Staff build is the ultimate ranged demon, you’re able to destroy players with your Staff Skills from anywhere between 25-30m away. However, if they get close, you also have the option to stack Javelin Inferno charges to cause even more devastating damage.
For PVP, this weapon combination is best used fighting on the maximum range of large scale PVP, rather in the large alliance blobs clashing into each other. As a result, finding high up spots or awkward angles for your enemy is key.
Large Scale Rotation
Below is a quick but straight forward AoE rotation for large scale PVP:
- High Focus
- Icebound Tomb
- Focused Fire Bomb
- Judgment Lightning
- Inferno Wave
- Chain Lightning
- Explosive Fury x5 (if you’re in range)
- Javelin Inferno x5
The rotation is quite simple, because it really is! Due to playing from so far away, you essentially have free reign to cast as much as you want. A nice combo to chain together if you see enough targets stacked together is Icebound Tomb into Infernal Meteor. Icebound Tomb with our selected specializations binds multiple enemies in a radius, lowering their Evasions too. As a result, this allows you to land a clean Meteor hit – and other spells!
It is incredibly important to note that if you have Bellandir’s Hivemind Staff – you have fully completed this PVP build. As a result, you’ll be able to place Burning Smokescreens from nearly 30m away underneath any stack of enemy players and cause serious damage through the Archboss Staff’s Passive. Should you have the Archboss weapon, look to place some Burning Smokescreens and trap your opponents on top of them with Icebound Tomb. Quickly following up with Focused Fire Bomb (or Serial Fire Bombs with Bellandir’s Staff) and Infernal Meteor is almost guaranteed to net you a ton of kills.
The Spear in this build is used mostly as a stat-stick due to the 20% Range increase it gives. However, if you can find a free way to stack Javelin Inferno up – you’ll have another avenue to causing some serious damage.
