Salvage System in New World Aeternum
In New World Aeternum, you can salvage weapons and armor that you no longer need. When you salvage gear there is also a chance at a perfect salvage that will yield you with some special resources. In this guide, we’ll take you through everything you need to know about the salvage system in New Word Aeternum.
How to Salvage Items In New World
During your adventures in Aeternum, you will come across both weapons and armor that are not very useful to you. Either they are much lower tier than you would want to use, or simply not an item you’re interested in equipping. When this happens you can salvage that gear by hovering over the item you want to salvage and pressing c and left click (You can also hold CTRL, press C, and left click to quick salvage without a confirmation screen). This will then salvage that item and you will obtain some materials and gold. The amount and type of material and the amount of gold you receive will depend on the tier of item that you salvage.
You can also get lucky and have a perfect salvage that will reward you will additional items, and salvaging expedition named items will reward you will a special material called materia.
Mass Salvage
You can also choose to mass salvage items within a particular category in your inventory. For example, if you have a lot of green pieces of armor that you have obtained and don’t want to keep you can salvage them all at once. You can do this by selecting the salvage all option within a particular category.
Selecting this option will bring up a menu of the different rarity options. In this case you would simply select the “Uncommon” option and click confirm. Be aware that this will in fact salvage all the green items with that category. If there is one you want to keep make sure you lock the item first so it won’t be salvaged.
What is Materia
Materia in New World is a resource that can be used to craft a desired named piece of gear from any expedition. There is a different materia for each expedition. It is not universal. This means you can not obtain materia from one expedition and use to craft an item from a different expedition. This resource gives players an additional option to obtain specific gear if they are not having any luck obtaining the drop during their expedition runs.
There are 2 different types of materia, regular materia and dense materia.
How to Obtain Materia in New World
Players can obtain Materia in two ways. You can obtain it by getting a named item from an expedition and salvaging that item. Any named expedition item can be salvaged into Materia of its corresponding expedition type (Garden of Genesis, Depths, Lazarus, etc.) This is useful if you are obtaining duplicate named items or a named item that you do not want. You can salvage it and turn it into a useful item.
You can also obtain materia by defeating the main boss of an expedition. This will yield you with materia of its corresponding expedition type.
Normal materia can be obtained by running the base versions of the expeditions without the Rise of the Angry Earth Expansion. In order to obtain dense materia you must be level 61+ and own the expansion.
How to Use Materia
Once you have obtained a certain amount of materia you can then use that materia to craft your desired expedition gear. You will need to make your way to the applicable crafting station. Then, simply find the “Unique Expedition Rewards” section and your desired item.
Each item will have a different materia cost. There are no other resources needed when crafting the expedition drop. All you need is the required amount of materia and you will be able to craft the item. You can craft normal replicas with normal materia and the mutated replicas (gear score 650-700) using dense materia.
What is a Perfect Salvage in New World
Whenever you salvage an item you have a chance to perform a Perfect Salvage. Perfect Salvages can reward players with the following:
- Scraps
- Fragments
All tiers of gear have a chance for a perfect salvage. However, legendary gear will always salvage into fragments. Salvaging named expedition items do not fall under the perfect salvage system. You will receive a different material, called materia as explained above, when salvaging those.
You can receive both scraps and fragments for arcane, armor, engineer, jewelry, and weapons.
Scraps can be the following tiers:
- Common
- Uncommon
- Rare
- Epic
- Legendary
Each tier of the scrap have similar uses, but will yield varying levels of resources and other benefits.
Fragments can only drop as legendary infused fragments, and have different uses from scraps.
Scraps
If you land a perfect salvage and receive scraps you can also utilize the scraps to extract materials, fabricate items, or gain experience in the respective trade skill.
For example, if you received weapon scraps from a perfect salvage you can take them to a forge for additional options.
When at the forge you could then use the scraps to extract resources. If you choose to extract scraps for materials, you will receive materials relative to the tier of scrap that you are using.
You also have the choice to utilize the fragments to gain weaponsmithing experience, making this a valid way to level up your trade skills. You can also use this method to level up your trade skill aptitude if you are already at max level crafting in a particular trade skill. Simply find the research option at the applicable crafting station and craft the research notes to increase your trade skill experience.
Fragments
If you land a perfect salvage and receive fragments can use the fragments to extract materials and fabricate items. You can also exchange them for grandmaster research notes to receive a large amount of experience for a particular trade skill.
Unlike scraps, fragments can be extracted into cooldown materials such as asmodeum, runic leather, phoenixweave, and glittering ebony.
How to Lock Your Gear in New World
In order to prevent accidentally salvaging gear that you want to keep you can lock your gear. You can do this by holding “L” and left-clicking on the gear, you want to lock. Once locked you will not be able to salvage that piece of gear.
